Volume 20, The Summer Edition

July 2024

A summer bee is flying over a row of multi-colored wine glasses.

Dear Readers,

Summer! Here we are. So much to splash into, soak up, savor.

Our summer issue — Vol. 20! — is here, too.

Let’s start with our cover illustration, another brilliant work by multi-talent Meg Maker. “The Bee” (2024, digital collage) is her evocation of “nature blooming in the wine glass,” as she says. We love the way her work captures the diversity of experiences, energy, and playfulness that are essential to summer. Also the way an idea can – bee-like – move from person to person, place to place, collecting, cross-pollinating, and creating. The result can be something singular, stunning, and sweet.

We hope we’ve done the same with the pieces collected in this volume.

Acclaimed food and wine writer Martin Sorge kicks things off with his brilliant “Your German Wines Are Begging for Bauernbrot.” It turns out that the answer to all your summer picnic questions starts and ends with this one gloriously rustic loaf. (Recipe included!)

Throughout the summer we’ll continue to roll out the volume in appropriately summer-sized bites. We know you count on TRINK for big think pieces and long-form stories. But also for breaking news and developments. Rolling content out regularly allows us to stay closer to you and you to stay closer to what’s happening in the world of German-speaking wines.
